Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
