Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he loved playing different card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he would play extensive hours and fail to win most times. He made some additional money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.
The definite advancement in his abilities happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would regularly play against one another. Howard had access into several of the best players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would tweak his cunning thinking techniques. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
