Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While competing in online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might just be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
