Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
