Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed betting on numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really competitive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a bit and headed to New York to participate in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he played extensive hours and fail to win most times. He made some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate more on poker.
The real improvement in his game began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would regularly play against one another. Howard had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his strategic thinking skills. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL holdem.
Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker world has ever seen. He moved to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
